Chassis and Genomes

Scrutinizing microbial adaptations to eukaryotic hosts and determining substantial criteria for the design of minimal genomes to understand the minimum criteria of life.

Comparative genomics has developed into a central discipline to determine, or leastwise to suppose, biological functions using the plethora of worldwide databases of genes and genome comparisons. The goals of this research area are to advance necessary methodological developments, to apply the new or optimized methods to analyze microbial adaptations to eukaryotic hosts, and finally, to establish and apply the spotted and actual criteria for the design of minimal genomes.

SYNMIKRO Young Researchers Groups

Almost all scientific members of SYNMIKRO are actively involved in DFG’s Collaborative Research Centers (Sonderforschungsbereiche), Research Training Groups (Graduiertenkollegs), or other Cooperative Research projects. Alongside performing adventurous experiments, and reporting excellent science, SYNMIKRO substantially promotes potential Young Research Group Leaders by constantly keeping its doors open to welcome and support Young Researchers planning to set up an Independent Research Group.
